Lessons for beginning students are private, one-on-one, 30 minute lessons. We usually have a waiting list, so if you're interested in playing the bagpipes, it's a good idea to get on the waiting list as soon as possible. We do require that new students already know how to read music. (Pipe music is all on the treble clef.) Our lessons are free, with the understanding that the students will commit to playing with the band when they're ready.
Lessons are held every Tuesday afternoon and evening at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 125 N. Wilkinson Street, Dayton, Ohio, with the exception of the first Tuesday of each month.
Beginning students start by playing the practice chanter, pictured above. Most students are on the practice chanter for about a year before making the transition to the full bagpipe. Contact the instructor for recommendations on practice chanters and to find out which beginning tutor book to purchase.
